Endoplasmic reticulum is a network of tubules, vesicles and sacs that are interconnected. They may serve specialized functions in the cell including protein synthesis, sequestration of calcium, production of steroids, storage and production of glycogen, and insertion of membrane proteins. The first part of this presentation will focus on rough endoplasmic reticulum which gets its name from the presence of ribosomes on its surface. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is repsonible for the production of the protein and lipid components of most of the cell's organelles. The ER contains a great amount of folds - but the membrane forms a single sheet enclosing a single closed sac. This internal space is called the ER lumen. The ER is additionally responsible for moving proteins and other carbohydrates. There are two types of ER - rough, which is coated with ribosomes, and smooth, which isn't.

What is the function of the smoooth endoplasmic reticulum?

The function of the smooth endoplasmic reticulim is the production of lipids and detoxification of organic chemicals into safe water soluble compounds.

What is the role of the endoplasmic reticulim?

a. The primary or the most important function of the endoplasmic reticulum is to transport the proteins, which are made by ribosomes, throughout the cell. b. A membrane network within the cytoplasm of cells involved in the synthesis, modification, and transport of cellular materials.

Ribosomes are attached to the rough part of the endoplasmic reticulum that...?

Ribosomes are attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum, which is responsible for synthesizing proteins. This association allows the ribosomes to transfer newly synthesized proteins directly into the endoplasmic reticulum for processing and modification before they are transported to their final destination within or outside the cell.

Which membrane marks and sorts molecules to be sent to different destinations?

Smooth ER (Endoplasmic Reticulim) detoxifys enzymes and send it to Rough ER which then ships it to the Golgi apparatus, which then marks and sorts molecules to be sent to different destinations.

Is the endoplasmic reticulum in an animal cell?

the endoplasmic reticulum is in both plant and animal cells. there is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) and then there is the rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER)

Is the endoplasmic reticulum connected to the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?

No because if they been connected then it be smooth endoplasmic reticulum or the rough endoplasmic reticulum and it will be one of the both :p

How does Endoplasmic function?

endoplasmic reticulum is divided into two parts that are smooth endoplasmic reticulum and rough endoplasmic reticulum. It is the network of membranes which provide skeletal framework to the cell.
