The function of a cell's cell wall is to support and protect the cell.

It protects the cell and gives it a definite shape. provides cells with structural support and protection. It also acts as a pressure vessel, preventing over-expansion when water enters the cell. It covers the cell membrane.

The cell wall is the outer layer of a plant cell. It helps to protect the body of the plant cell from foreign objects, sort of like your skin. It also takes in nutrients for the cell.

The cell wall is semi-permeable. It only allows certain things to come into the cell, lets the waste out, but keeps the foreign objects out.

Cell walls in plant cells prevent the cell from bursting when a lot of water diffuses in via osmosis.

While cell membranes might be around every cell, cell walls made of cellulose are only found around plant cells. Cellulose forms protective framework for a plant cell to survive. It is a structural carbohydrate used in protection and support. They help a plant keep its shape.

There are small holes in the wall that let nutrients, waste, and ions pass through. These holes have a problem: water can also be lost.

There are other sorts of cell walls. Many but not all bacteria also have a structure called a cell wall. Fungi and some protozoa also have cell walls. This wall is made of proteins. They serve the same purpose of protecting and maintaining structure.

The cell wall is important because if the plant does not have a cell wall the plant would not be able to stand up properly, and the plant would not be able to produce food or water for itself because the cell wall is not up properly.
