The impairment you are referring to is commonly known as Achromatopsia, or the inability to see colour, only black and white.
There are several causes of the inability:
- One explanation is said to occur during foetal development within the Retinal Phototransduction Pathway. This results in the inability for the cones within our eyes to respond correctly. The cones are the parts of our eyes which respond to colour, therefore if they do not respond, only rods which respond to light and dark will be responding. This also links to reduced visibility in people with Achromatopsia as their sight is based primarily on light levels.
- Another explanation is based on damage to certain brain areas such as: the diencephalon, the cerebral cortex, the thalamus and areas within the brain stem. It can also be linked to tumors within the brain. This explanation relies more on damage to the brain rather than the actual cells within the eyes.
There is no treatment currently available to fully treat Achromatopsia.
you cant see colors or you don't see em well
Achromatopsia
A - without
Chromat/o - color
-Opsia - vision condition
It makes them not be able to see color
The prognosis generally relates to the severity of the impairment and the ability of the aids to correct it
All colors if not vision deficient by birth.
The cells responsible for the color vision in mammals are called as cones. I have been remembering the same by color vision by cones. That C and C. The brightness is perceived by rod cells. This is how you dispel the confusion. There are cones and rods to perceive the vision.
If a person is without color vision, there is really no way to regain it. There are types of lenses that can improve some color loss, but it cannot be regained.
There are a wide variety of eye defects that can potentially cause color-deficient vision. The most common one is color blindness, which is a sex-linked genetic trait.
Myopia is near-sightedness; presbyopia is an impairment of vision due to old age.
what are the symptoms of vision impairment
Color Blind
Give them options
Blindness is the inability to see anything, while vision impairment happens when an eye condition affects the visual system and its vision functions. The most common causes of blindness and vision impairment at a global level are cataracts and refractive error.
Tunnel vision is a term used to describe a narrow perspective or focus on a particular issue or goal, ignoring other important factors or information. It can lead to missing out on important details or alternative solutions.
Visually impaired, visual impairment also works as stated.
The prognosis generally relates to the severity of the impairment and the ability of the aids to correct it
"Optically challenged" is a politically incorrect term that may refer to someone who has a visual impairment or difficulty with their eyesight. It is not an appropriate or respectful way to describe someone with a vision impairment.
Devic syndrome is a chronic and degenerative disorder that usually affects both eyes. The eyes develop diminished sensitivity to bright lights, color vision impairment, and diminished light reflexes.
One can have a color vision test on the 'Color Vision Testing' website which tests for color blindness. One can also have a similar test at their local opticians.
Color vision problems affect victims because they are not able to see the perception of color. Color vision are not able to distinguish shades or there is a total inability to detect color.
