Mitosis is the process that a cell goes through when it divides into two new cells. The primary purpose of mitosis is growth, as it is through mitosis that an organism goes from a single cell to trillions of cells. In a fully developed, multi cellular organism, mitosis also serves the role of repairing damaged cells. Additionally, there is a third, more specific purpose of mitosis, which is to create cells specifically for reproduction through the process of "meiosis."

Mitosis helps divide a parent cell into 2 daughter cells.

It has 5 phases:

-Interphase... which includes:

Growth 1 Phase (G1 Phase)

DNA Synthesise (S Phase)

Growth 2 Phase (G2 Phase)

-Prophase

-Metaphase

-Anaphase

-Telophase

Hope this helps a bit~

What are the functions of meiosis but not mitosis in eukaryotes?

The form of cell division that produces animal gametes is meiosis, not mitosis. The production of gametes in plants is a function of both mitosis and meiosis.

Name the 2 forms of cell division?

Meiosis- cell division that produces gametes or sex cells for reproduction Mitosis- cell division that produces identical, "daughter" cells for things like skin regeneration or replacing dead cells.

Do Mitosis produces four identical daughter cells from one parent cell?

No. The main function of meiosis is to produce gametes for reproduction. The whole process passes through the called "reductionist division", that is, the first part is to duplicate chromosomes but just before the cell division (that comes after chromosome duplication in normal mitosis) there is a second division of chromosomes producing haploid cells or gametes (1n) instead two identical cells (diploid or 2n) derived from mitosis.

What is the process by which a molecule is made?

MITOSIS= it is a type of cell division that occurs only in the body cells (not in gametes (sex cells) sperm and egg) mitosis has a main purpose of growth repair and maintenance its a cell division that produces a IDENTICAL cell. through mitosis cell division new cells are made.

What are the purpose of mitosis and cell division?

The functions of cell division by mitosis are 1. to keep the total cell number in a mature organism relatively constant, 2. to replace worn-out or damaged cells, and 3. to enable a multicellular organism to grow to adult size.

What are the two stages of the cell division?

mitosis, cytokinesisInterphase and Mitotic phase1.Prophase which is where the nuclear membrane dissolves. 2.Telophase which is where two new nucli form.

In what type of cell does mitosis occur?

Mitosis occurs in somatic cells. Meiosis, on the other hand, occurs only in sex cells or in the ovaries and testes.

Is interphase longer or shorter than mitosis?

Interphase is different from the division stages of meiosis and mitosis in that no division occurs at interphase. Activities that occur include increase in the size of the cell and DNA synthesis.

How many cell division steps are necessary in a mitosis?

Mitosis is a process consisting of four main steps: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. Each step involves specific events and changes in the cell, including the condensing and aligning of chromosomes, their separation into two sets, and the formation of two daughter cells. Therefore, mitosis requires a total of four cell division steps.

What is the main difference between meiosis and mitosis?

mitosis involves 1 division while meiosis involves 2

What is the use of mitosis?

Mitosis is the process in which one cell divides into two new cells. Mitosis goes under phases which are:# Interphase # Prophase # metaphase # anaphase # telophase and Cytokinesis ( Cyto= Cell, kinesis= movement)
