Evolution is enabled by natural selection: the ability of a species through its individuals to make long-term improved changes in its response to its environment through beneficial mutations, resulting in the species being able to reproduce itself more successfully than before.

New species are scientifically named in a process that can take a long time. Each species is given a species name, a genera, a family and an order. As of 2014, more than 1.9 million species have been discovered and named in this way.
Speciation is the term used to describe the process for a new species developing from an existing species.
Evolution is a slow, slow process which enacts itself over many generations. Species evolve to adapt to environments and to survive, which makes evolution the mechanism through which "survival of the fittest" succeeds as a natural order.
