The distal interphalangeal joints are the most distal joints of the lower extremities.
If I remember from anatomy...the ankle is a synovial joint (movement at the point of contact at bones) that connects the distal ends of the tibia and fibula to the proximal end of the talus bone in the foot.....distal means the most distant of 2 or more things in this case bones and proximal means towards the beginning of 2 or more things.
The Scientific name for the hip joint is:Pelvis
The distal ends of the tibia and fibula are the malleoli (singular malleolus). The tibia has the medial malleolus, and the fibula has the lateral malleolus.
distal
In short, the spine in the person's lower back is curved or "bent" in a way that is not expected, ie. sideways. Scoliosis is a sideways (for lack of a better word) curvature of the spine. ie. the spine bends in a way that it is not supposed to. Proximal lumbar and distal thoraxic refer to indivdual vertibrae in the lower back at the end (distal) of the portion of vertibae that are reffered to as throaxic (of the thorax) these are assosicated with the chest; and the closest to your skull (most proximal) of the "lumbar" vertibrae which are in the region of your back between your hips and ribs, the lumbar region.
The talus is the most superior of the tarsals. It forms a joint with the distal end of the tibia.
The phalanges, or toe bones, are distal to the metatarsals. They are farther away from the origin of the lower limb.
Lower extremity needs most blood supply when climbing the stairs. This supply goes to the muscles.
fibula! The fibula or calf bone is a bone located on the lateral side of the tibia, with which it is connected above and below. It is the smaller of the two bones, and, in proportion to its length, the most slender of all the long bones. Its upper extremity is small, placed toward the back of the head of the tibia, below the level of the knee-joint, and excluded from the formation of this joint. Its lower extremity inclines a little forward, so as to be on a plane anterior to that of the upper end; it projects below the tibia, and forms the lateral part of the ankle-joint.
The term most opposite of proximal is "distal."
disease (70%), trauma (22%), congenital or birth defects (4%), and tumors (4%).
The quadriceps muscles of the thigh consists of four distinct muscles. This muscle group is the most powerful one in the lower extremity of the human body.
There is no single ankle bone. The ankle is made of seven bones called the tarsals; the calcaneus, talus, navicular, cuboid, and the three cuniforms. What most people consider their ankle bones are actually the medial and lateral malleolus, on the tibia and fibula bones, respectively.

Since it's the lower, I think you can replace just the ball joint. Most of the time the uppers are replaced by replacing the entire arm.
The styloid process of the Ulna (one of the bones of the forearm) is where the Ulna connects to the ligament of the wrist joint. The Triquetrum, Lunate and Pisiform carpal bones all lie distal to this. However the carpal bone most easily palpable is the Pisiform bone.
