Both! The kind of outer layer depends on the type of cell - (animal or plant). A plant cell has a cell wall but the animal cell has a cell membrane. The animal cell does not have a cell wall because, a cell wall would be more hard and "strict." The animal cell needs to be more flexible and "loose."

I hope this truly helps you with your homework, worksheets, notes, etc.

its the most outer layer

Thick outer covering of a plant cell?

the cell wall is a rigid outer layer unique to plant cells. it shapes and protects the cell, unlike animal cells, whose outer most layer is the plasma membrane (a layer that lies beneath the cell wall in plant cells)

Where are cell membrane found?

on the outer layer of the cell ----------------------------------------- The membrane is found around the edge of a cell - it encases the cell and controls what goes in and out of it. In plants, the membrane is protected by a thick cell wall.

Does a onion epidermis have a cell wall?

yes.. the outer layer that is enclosing the cell is the cell membrane, and after the membrane is the rigid cell wall. this is to protect the cells content

What is the thin outer boundary of an animal cell?

The cell membrane. It is a lipid bilayer with proteins integrated into it for transportation into and out of the cell.

Is a cell wall a cell membrane?

No it is not. A cell wall is a rigid outer structure on a plant or algae cell. A cell membrane is a flexible outer layer on every cell, but doesn't provide much protection. answered by Shelby 7th grade

What is the difference between the cell wall of a plant and animal cell?

Plant cells have a cell wall on the outer layer. Animal cells do not have a cell wall they have a cell membrane.
