What is a mechanistic study and how does it contribute to our understanding of biological processes?

A mechanistic study is a type of scientific research that aims to uncover the specific molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying a biological process. By identifying these mechanisms, researchers can gain a deeper understanding of how biological processes work at a fundamental level. This knowledge can help scientists develop new treatments for diseases, improve agricultural practices, and advance our overall understanding of living organisms.

I would like to study biological sciences at an English university is it VITAL that I take chemistry as well as biology at A Level to get into a good school?

Whilst it is possible to study biology/ biological sciences without A Level Chemistry, most of the top ranking universities require at least AS Level Chemistry, & most recommend a full A Level (or equivalent) in Chemistry or something analagous like Physical Sciences. It's worth bearing in mind that degrees in biology/ biological science invariably require general chemical knowledge/ understanding (organic & inorganic) of at least A Level standard, so if you don't have this at the start there's going to be a lot of extra "catch up" work to do!
