The main job of the colon is the reabsorption of water and salts from chyme that enters into it from the small intestine. As the water is drawn out it turns into feces. For this reason it has to be wider than the small intestine, which is about an inch in diameter. On average the colon is about four feet long and two inches wide in most places. Some parts, like the cecum, can be wider, up to three inches, while other places, like the anal canal, can be a bit narrower if it is empty. The colon is also known as the large intestine. It is divided into four segments, totaling approximately 60 inches on average.
1) The Ascending colon connects to the small intestine, and is about 8 inches long.
2) The Transverse colon is usually over 18 inches long and extends from the hepatic flexure, across the upper abdomen to the splenic flexure.
3) The Descending colon is usually less than 12 inches long and extends from the splenic flexure downwards to the start of the pelvis.
4) The Sigmoid colon is S-shaped and is about 18 inches long. It extends from the descending colon to the rectum. The rectum measures from 4-6 inches in length.
The shortest part of the colon is the ascending colon, which connects the cecum to the transverse colon. It measures about 5 to 10 centimeters in length.
The sigmoid colon (pelvic colon; sigmoid flexure) forms a loop which averages about 40 cm.For more information see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmoid_colon
The total volume of the human intestine can vary, but on average, the length of the intestine is around 20 feet long and the diameter is about 1-2 inches. This results in a total volume of approximately 2-3 liters when filled with fluid.
The rectum is continuous with the sigmoid colon and measures about 5 inches in length. It is the final portion of the large intestine where feces are stored before being eliminated from the body through the anus.
The average length of an onion cell ranges from 0.25 mm or 250 microns to 0.4 mm or 400 microns. No one has actually measured the width of an onion cell but from the diameter of the field of view in a microscope and comparing the length to the width, I would say that the width is about a quarter or third of the length. Therefore, the width would have to be somewhere between 0.06 to 0.08 mm.
The colon of an adult human is about 4 to 6 feet long.
The human colon is 63 inches in length. It is five feet and three inches long and compressed into the lower portion of the body.
The bowel is a layman term for a collection of interconnected parts of the human intestine. the large and small bowel the cecum and the ascending/descending colon the ileum the large and small intestines the duodenum and jejunum to the stomach. The total length from stomach to anus is about 22 feet
perimeter = length + length + width + width = 2*length + 2*width = 36 length = 5*width 2*(5*width) + 2*width = 36 12*width = 36 width = 3 length = 15
Area = length x width Length = area/width
Length and width
Length / Width
If Length * Width = Area, then Area ÷ width = Length
Area = (length) times (width)Length = (area) divided by (width)Width = (area) divided by (length)
No. It has NO length, NO width, NO height. Only a position.No. It has NO length, NO width, NO height. Only a position.No. It has NO length, NO width, NO height. Only a position.No. It has NO length, NO width, NO height. Only a position.
perimeter = (2*length) + (2*width) length = 2*width so perimeter = (2*2*width) + 2*width = 6*width perimeter = 48 so you can figure out the width and length
It is 2*(Length + Width).
