The esophagus or gullet is a tube like structure which is about 25 cm, connecting your pharynx to your stomach which is located behind the windpipe and it allows food and water to pass from your mouth to your stomach. The esophagus is a muscular organ which can be stretched easily and you don't feel any pain during swallowing unless become diseased.

- nasopharynx (nasal cavity + throat)
- oropharynx (oral cavity + throat)
- laryngopharynx (throat + larynx)
