A distal interphalangeal joint is the articulation of the medial and distal phalanges. In contrast, a proximal interphalangeal joint is the articulation of the proximal and medial phalanges.
The joint is technically called "metacarpophalangeal", and it is a condyloid joint.
saddle joint- This joint has two bones that fit together in a special way. It can move in all directions, except rotational. It's what makes us different from monkeys as they can't move their thumbs!
Metacarpophalangeal joint. A condyloid type of joint.
The proximal and distal phalanges only meet in the first digits (the thumbs and the big tues). This joint is the first interphalangeal joint.
The interphalangeal joints in the fingers are synovial hinge joints. The thumb metacarpal is a saddle joint. The metacarpo-phalangeal joints are synovial ellipsoid joints.
Joint between the phalanges (interphalangeal joint) is hinge joint.
Proximal and distal interphalangeal joints.

Metacarpophalangeal joint
The second through fourth metacarpophalangeal joints are condyloid joints. The first metacarpophalangeal joint is a saddle joint.

Sesamoid bones are also found occasionally at the metacarpophalangeal joints of the middle and ring fingers, at the interphalangeal joint of the thumb and at the distal interphalangeal joint of the index finger. In the lower extremity the largest sesamoid bone of the joints is the patella, developed in the tendon of the Quadriceps femoris.
The metacarpophalangeal joint is typically known as the pastern. This is the joint between the metacarpus (cannon bone) and the first phalanx (the pastern bone).
The medical abbreviation MCP joint stands for metacarpophalangeal joint, which is the joint between the metacarpal bones of the hand and the phalanges (fingers).
The first metacarpophalangeal joint is a saddle joint. The other metacarpophalangeal joints are hinge joints.
