In order to change the pH, one of two ions must be formed. Producing hydronium ions will make the pH more acidic. On the other hand, producing more hydroxide ions will make the solution's pH more basic.

Check your lab manual. Was there an acid or a base added? HCl or NaOH, perhaps?

How alkalinity change with change with pH?

the higher the pH, the more alkaline the substance is. :)

Does the amount of water in a cup effect its pH?

pH is the measure of the levels of acid or base in a substance. Increasing the amount of a substance will not change the pH so long as the existing substance and the added substance are chemically the same.

A substance with a pH of 11 is what times more what than a substance with a pH of 8?

A pH of 11 is 1000x more alkaline than a pH of 8. The pH scale is a logarithmic scale. This means that in a pH scale, a change of one whole number represents a tenfold change in the pH. So a pH of 8 is 10x more alkaline than a pH of 7.

What substance resists change in pH levels?

Buffers are solutions designed to resist changes to pH levels.

What is the chemical substance that resists change in pH?

You think to chemical buffers.

What substance is like litmus that will change color in acids acids alkali?

This substance is called a pH indicator.

If the ph of a substance is 11 then that substance is?

If a substance has a PH of 11 then the substance is basic.

What substance forms a solution in water with a PH of 7?

Nothing because water is the only substance which has a PH of 7. Anything added to the water would change the PH unless you added pure water to it.

What do you call a substance which is used to show changes in pH by its change in color?

An indicator

What is the pH of a substance?

The pH is the negative log of the concentration of hydronium ions. (pH=-log [H3O+]) If the pH is high, the substance is basic. If it is low the substance is acidic. When the pH is exactly 7 the substance is neutral.

Which is the most acidic pH 2 pH 5 pH 7 or pH 11?

Most acidic is substance of pH of 2, then of pH of 5 and the substance of pH 7 is neutral and the substance of pH 11 is basic

How is the pH level of a substance affected by buffers and why are buffers important in the human body?

Buffers "slow" changes in pH (they make it difficult to change pH), and for animals a constant pH (internally) is critical to survival. (A change in pH of 1 - in either direction - will kill you.)
