Main ones are frost during flowering and lack of insects for pollination. That is assuming there is a suitable pollinator in the vicinity.

i beg to difer:

  • most likely reason is lack of the right polinator, an apple tree can not pollinate it self
  • how old is the tree? grafted in a nursery it will need 2-3 years if grown from seed it will need 5-8 years
  • how much growth did it have this year? too much and it wont bear fruit, too little/weak and it wont bear fruit
  • now come the frost or heatwave during blooming which ruins pollination
  • as for the amount it varies with tree variety, age, size (not the same as age), rootstock, health, water stress, oxygen stress (usually from too much water), shortage of fertilizer be it nitrogen or iron or whatever is missing, tree design, thinning, June drop and many many many more
