Plants get their Carbon from the air.

Funny that they don't get carbon from the soil but do enjoy the N P K and trace elements even small traces of nickel and copper from soil.

Plants do however use their roots to absorb carbon from the air. Counter intuitive but true. Plants breath with their roots.
