  • via transpiration. the nutrients they need are solutes in the water, the roots absorb the water, the leaves open up and the water turns to vapor drawing up more water from the soil through the roots. each time this happens the solutes are left in the plant.

Plants need carbon dioxide, water, and sun to live. Sun and carbon dioxide together produce a sugar they use as food for energy in the proccess of photosynthesis.

The balance of the nutrients are absorbed from the soil by the root system of the plant.
Roots

Roots collect neutrients by using a hormone called auxin and having tiny hairs called root hairs. These hairs help absorb neutrients and auxin spreads out the roots so that they have plenty of surface area. Having a larger surface area increases the rate of absorption. Shoots

Shoots also collect neutrients by collecting plenty of water as water contains valuable neutrients and minerals. Auxin is photophobic and stays away from light in this case, speeding up growth and tilting the shoot towards the light therefore increasing photosynthetic rates.

Trees obtain approximately 90 percent of their nutrition from the atmosphere; only 10 percent of their nutrition is obtained from the soil. Carbon dioxide and sunlight are the most important nutrients that are gathered from the atmosphere as trees use these substances to produce oxygen.
