They live in humid areas such as bogs and swamps, and in areas of the rain forest where minerals have been leached from the soil. They are native to the Amazon, and also to areas of the US Atlantic coast, notably northern Florida and coastal areas of North and South Carolina, and reportedly in isolated wilderness areas of New Jersey.

The Venus Flytrap is also widely cultivated in greenhouses as a novelty plant.
