Interphase and M phase are two main stages of the cell cycle. Cell cycle comprises of 4 phases namely, G1, S, G2, & M phase. In mitotic cells M phase is as mitotic phase & In meotic cells m phase indicates meotic phase. So, the phase before mitotis is G2.
Before M Phase
The G2 phase is immediately preceded by the S ( DNA synthesis for chromosome duplication) phase, and is followed by the M (mitosis, or cell division) stage.
