Why do animals have different shapes, sizes, colors? they evolved that way and it's usually to help them survive in the conditions they live in.

eg: some evergreen trees have needles instead of leaves to prevent animals from eating them.

Of course, it could be completely random, just like mice are smaller than dogs, some leaves may be smaller than others
