Who carries oxygenated blood?

Deoxygenated blood leaves the heart by way of the Pulmonary Artery. It passes through the lungs losing carbon dioxide and absorbing oxygen by conversions in the haemoglobin. The oxygen rich blood returns to the heart via the Pulmonary Vein. From the heart it goes to the body, The most oxygen rich blood would be in the Pulmonary Vein just after it leaves the lungs.

In mammals, including humans, blood flows to the lungs, where it flows through many thin walled capillaries. Here oxygen diffuses into the blood because of a concentration gradient achieved by ventilating the lungs (breathing) and the movement of the blood. Here it associates with haemoglobin in the red blood cells, which are then transported around the body in the blood stream.

While oxygen diffuses into the blood, carbon dioxide diffuses out of the blood along a concentration gradient also.
