Lipids are important energy storage compounds because they provide heat and provide a source of long term energy.
Because the are not soluble in water, they therefore do not wash away in the various bodily fluids. As they are not soluble in water they will not change the water potential of a cell they are present in.

Lipids or fats are a good energy storage molecules because of its chemical complexity. Both lipids and carbohydrates serve as sources of energy, but these compounds contain different capacities for energy storage. One gram of carbohydrates stores 4 calories of energy, whereas lipid stores 9 calories/g. When our body requires immediate energy, it obtains by utilizing the energy from sugars (carbohydrate). but under starvation (no available sugar) it digest triglycerides (lipid) as a source of energy. Lipids are stored in adipose tissue to supply energy when glucose is not available. This is why we need to hit gym if we want to reduce our tummy (excess of fat deposition in adipose tissue)

Lipids (fats) have 9 calories/gram. Both carbohydrates and proteins only have 4 calories/gram. Thus lipids have more than twice the energy density of carbohydrates and proteins.

What organic compound is considered to be a long storage of energy?

Lipids, more generally thought of as fat molecules, are used by cells to store energy. They are also an important structure molecule and can be used for signaling.

What is the synthetic reaction involved in making fat molecules?

Lipids provide the structure of membranes and some cell walls and function in energy storage.

Why do animals use lipids instead of carbohydrates as energy-storing molecules?

Lipids have around twice the energy density of carbohydrates, so they are a more efficient means of storage (i.e. only half the mass is needed to store an equivalent amount of energy).

In living organisms lipids function mainly as?

Lipids comprise one of the 4 major organic molecules in the body. Some of their functions include: energy storage, regulate movement of substances in an out of the cell and for signal transduction.

Many birds must store large amount of energy to power flight during migration which type of organic molecules would be the most advantageous for energy storage and why?

Lipids, aka fats, would be the best storage option. Lipids are the best choice because they contain the most amount of energy per the space they take up. Carbohydrates would be second to fat as they are high in energy as well.

Are lipids?

lipids are a broad group of naturally occurring molecules which includes fats, waxes, sterols, fat-soluble vitamins (such as vitamins A, D, E and K), monoglycerides, diglycerides, phospholipids, and others. The main biological functions of lipids include energy storage, as structural components of cell membranes, and as important signaling molecules.simple answer: lipids are energy-rich compounds made of carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen. Lipids are organic molecules that contain hydrogen and carbon and are crucial for cell growth.

What are two groups of lipid?

There are four main groups of lipids. They are fatty acids, glycerides, non glycerides, and complex lipids. The groups are determined based on storage of energy, structure of cell membranes, and signal of chemical biological activities.
