Because you need oxygen to survive, and if you don't get the air, that carries oxygen, you will die. But you can practice holding it for longer periods of time, but if you hold it for to long, you may feel faint, so I suggest not to do that.
The primary stimulus in the regulation of breathing patterns are the chemical changes in the blood such as the partial pressures of oxygen and carbon dioxide (PO2/PCO2) and hydrogen ion concentration (pH). Hydrogen ion concentration in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has the earliest and greatest influence on respiratory activity. Hence, hypoventilation (as in breath holding) stimulates neurons of the inspiratory center in the medulla when the rising partial pressure of carbon dioxide decreases cerebrospinal fluid pH. Conversely, voluntary hyperventilation depresses the respiratory center via the decrease in partial pressure of carbon dioxide which raises cerebrospinal fluid pH.
Interestingly, exercize does not INITIALLY (in the beginning) affect arterial partial pressure of oxygen, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, or pH. It does stimulate the inspiratory center IMMEDIATELY and directly via action potentials from the cerebral cortex and mechanoreceptors located in joints. This is for a short time. Then the aforementioned scenario occurs.
Because you need air.
Why do you need air? Because air turns in to energy when you breath it. so if your body has no energy u might dye. like what happens if you put water in a computer? Well it breaks right? that what happens if we hold our breath.
This is the answer

i always thought you couldn't strangle yourself till you die because you cant breath and you will just want to stop
If you held your breath, the carbon dioxide levels in your body would rise making it harder and harder for you to maintain holding your breath.
you cant convince a girl for sex. when she is ready she will tell you and it will just happen. you cant make her do anything she doesnt want to.
It gives out oxygen to breath. Every organism how ever depend on photosynthesis
You have to breath in from your mouth, and close your throat and push! But only some people can do it. Like me, I couldn't do it at first....But I practice and now I can burp my ABC's! Have fun and try it! >Amber
as long as they want to. they are mad.
There is a myth that mermaids can hold their breath underwater indefinitely, but in reality, humans can hold their breath anywhere from 1-3 minutes on average. If mermaids were real, they would likely have similar breath-holding capabilities to humans.
it depends, if the carotid artery and/or jugular are cut then you cant do anything about it, your virtually dead. if your windpipe, esophagus is cut then it depends, you want to keep as much blood out of the lungs as possible but if your throat is cut you might not want to live for very long... It mainly depends on the circumstances. if your close to the hospital then try not to breath as much. but holding your breath will also harm you... basically if your throat is slit then you are SOL man.
take in the biggest breath you can, and then add a quick forcable one so that you push your limits. Close your mouth and nose, then focus on some random and fascinating object. OR: the same, but instead of focusing on an object focus on holding your breath and tell yourself that all humans can hold their breath for more than 5 minutes. it sounds stupid but it's not; you can convince your brain that you can do anything you want to.
They have gills so as long as they want.
There's two ways to find this information out. First way is to ask a 12 year old girl to hold her breath and see how long she can hold it for. The other method is to kidnap a 12 year old girl, then tell her to hold her breath. I don't recommend the second one but if you really have to, don't... Really... Don't do it.
go to the search bar and type in what u want and then wait for it to load and then keep on scrolling down while reading.
They can hold you as long as they want as long as the issuing state orders you held for extradition.
It doesn't. Hippos have lungs, just like you and I. If they want to dive, they have to hold their breath. Or they'll choke and drown.
The average person can hold there breath for about 30 to 40 seconds, not that long uh. But some people mainly free divers who have been diving for a long period of time their lungs and heart have expanded and got used to holding their breath for longer times. There was a case in NYC which a man for the Guinness Records held his breath for 15 minutes.
That depends on what kind of baby you are talking about. Baby fish can certainly breathe under water. Baby mammals cant breathe under water.well it depends that's what i learned din my class of fcs.:) or else
Holding one's breath is a deliberate conscious act, thus it requires will). If breath can be witheld long enough, you will pass out and breathing will recommence. Breathing does not require willpower. It is automatic and orchestrated by the primitive brain stem. No consciousness is needed in order to breath.
