Your immune system can look at any cell in your body and tell whether it is a part of body or if it is a foreign cell because all of your cells have 'labels' on them. For example if you are blood group A you could imagine that all your blood cells have little A's on them and your body has known since you were born any cell with an A on is part of you and therefore shouldn't be destroyed. However if you were to inject yourself with blood cells from someone who is blood group B then you body would see the 'B' labels on the foreign cells and begin to destroy them, sometimes leadinfg to an extreme immune response and death.

When someone is blood group O- it means they have no labels on their blood cells at all and so their blood can but put into other peoples bodies without that persons immune system detecting it.
