Seed dispersal can occur in many forms:

-by wind

-by water

-by animals

-by explosive mechanism

By growing away from the parent plants, seedling face less competition in terms of water, nutrients and sunlight. Avoiding diseases is not a reason for seeds to be dispersed away from the parent plants. Food for the seedlings is provided by the seed leaves. Different locations do not necessarily decrease the chance of being eaten by plant-eaters.
