Fluoride is a chemical that can, when used in the proper dosages, help increase the minerals in your teeth, making them stronger and healthier, which helps stop, and even possibly reverse cavity formation.

It has also been claimed that Fluoride can help increase bone density, and can stimulate the growth of new bone.

Fluoride can, however, have negative effects in too large a quantities.

Fluoride is added to the drinking water in many parts of the United States.

Small amounts of fluoride help reduce tooth decay. Adding fluoride to tap water (called fluoridation) helps reduce cavities in children by more than half.

Fluorides also help maintain bone structure. Low doses of fluoride salts may be used to treat conditions that cause faster-than-normal bone loss, such as menopause.

It leads to a build up of calcium in your bones (e.g. even teeth). The only 'minor' side effect of it is dental fluorosis which affects children with developing teeth. But even then only 0.59% of all children get this. in other words you have a better chance of getting killed by a car.

Because Fluoride protects teeth from decay and it cavities in two ways. When bacteria in the mouth combine with sugars, acid is produced that can erode tooth enamel and damage teeth.
