because if we do not have it, plants would die, and that would mean the end of plants generating oxygen, which would mean we would all die, if the food chain collapse doesn't get us first. in other words, WE WOULD DIE!!!

Photosynthesis is a process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight. Photosynthesis occurs in plants, algae, and many species of bacteria. In plants, algae and cyanobacteria photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water, releasing oxygen as a waste product. Photosynthesis is vital for life on Earth. Plants maintan the normal level of oxygen in the atmosphere, nearly all life either depends on it directly as a source of energy, or indirectly as the ultimate source of the energy in their food. No Plants = no animals!

Photosynthesis itself is just important for life:

- Fixes carbon dioxide

-Did you hear any news that today our world's CO2 level in the atmosphere is rising? This can be caused by too much industrial CO2 waste to the air and the decrease number of trees or plants could make this, less plants, more CO2 to fly around in the air. The increase in CO2 level causes Ozone depletion (allowing all bad UV lights to penetrate through, the reason why people say put sunscreen on, UV light can cause dangerous skin damages etc.) and temperature rise in the globe which will eventually lead to climate change (which is bad).

-Waste product of O2

-We won't really survive without amounts of O2 that the plants produce.

-Food! Glucose.

-The food chain's primary consumer is the plant! It converts sunlight biomass through the photosynthesis, making PGA (3 carbon-base sugar= glucose), which we consume to survive. Unless the plant produces glucose, we won't have primary prey to consume on. The Photosynthesis balances the basic fundamentals of biomass cycle in the ecology, little disturbance on how much biomass is used and consumed and recycled is crucially important. Say, sun has 100%, the plant uses up that biomass to convert that into 10%, and we receive 1% of the entire biomass available (energy- a.k.a. sugar, we eat veggies first before meat). If the plant does not follow up proper photosynthesis, we will either be overflow with energy or lacking energy, we just want right amount of energy and the plant helps us maintain that balance.

Because the plants (and other producers) use photosynthesis to make there food, and the other animals eat the plants, who in turn get eat, so on. The reason photosynthesis is so important is because then the plants would die, and then everything else in the chain.

What are potential benefits of an increased rate of photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the single most important function in all of living things. An increased rate of photosynthesis will allow the process to be not as effective.

Why oxygen important for photosynthesis?

It's a by-product of photosynthesis. The process uses Carbon Dioxide.
