Answer 1

It's actually your tears running down into your nasal cavity.

The lacrimal glands of the eye are situated above (superior to) the lateral aspect of each eye. They continually release a dilute salt solution (tears) that flow over the front (anterior) surface of the eyeball through several small ducts. The tears flush across the eye and through the lacrimal puncta(tiny openings of the lacrimal canaliculi) medially, then into the lacrimal sac.

Lastly, they flow into the nasolacrimal duct, which empties into the nasal cavity causing us to sniffle and need to blow our nose.

Answer 4

It is necessary to blow your nose after crying because it expresses feelings and thoughts to blow your nose.

Answer 5

Well, when you cry, some of the tears flow down the nasolachrymal duct, which opens in the upper part of the nose. It's where tears normally drain to when you are not crying, it's just that crying makes more tears. Save

Tears are a product of the defense system, meaning that your body may not realize that it is being produced from emotional distress and may mistake it as a time for body defense.

Your nose, being near the eyes, may be affected depending on how severe the condition is of one or the other (for example, hay fever).

Therefore, your nose will then produce mucus (snot), to trap any foreign material from entering your body.

So in other words, crying can act like a warning for your body's defense system, which then activates your nose to also prepare for defense.

Your nose and your eyes are connected near the sinus area. Pressure from the nasal cavity can cause pressure on tear ducts and induce crying.

You may also feel pressure on your ears as well. This is why people are told to chew gum while flying or to close mouth, plug nose and blow while under water to release pressure from ears.

This is because of the path that the tear fluid takes to leave the eye. It is washed medially by the eyelids blinking and pools in the lacrimal lake. This happens during normal function but during crying it overflows from here creating tears. Anyway, from the lake the tears are drained through the lacrimal canaliculi into the lacrimal sac. This is more of a sinus than a storage area and from here the fluid is drained through the Nasolacrimal duct into the nasal cavity where the fluid is secreted into the middle meatus. During crying there is obviously much more fluid and so the nose runs.

Most of the tears that are secreted from the eyes drain away down the tear ducts, around the lower eyelids, which empty into the nose. Hence a runny nose that needs blowing !

Snot!Snot is the slang term for nose mucus. mucus is made up of: mucin (a protein)skin cellswaterinroganic salts (basically the dirt/pollution we inhale)BUT when we are sick, snot also contains:cbacteria and/or viruses and dead white cells (that's why it looks colored sometimes)When we cry we have extra snot that is extra liquidy! The tears drain away from the eyes through ducts into the nose, this softens up the snot, makng it liquid and fluid, causing your nose to drip.Sometimes this is actually a good thing, that can unclog your naso/oral cavity (ha he may have dumped you but who will have the cleaner halthier nose?)So snot is GREAT!Snot is really a protective lubricating layer that:moisturizes the airprevents tissue from drying outtraps debris and expel it.

Why does crying affect your sinuses?

Yes. Crying causes several different activities at once. The most important that relates to your question is the increase in fluids in the mouth, nose and eyes. The tears come out through tear ducts in the eyes, the overflow goes to the sinuses (out the nose) and down the back of the throat.Ever notice when a small child cries, their nose runs and if they are crying hard enough they also start to drool. Well as we get older the tubes that link the eyes, nose and mouth become a little larger and able to pick up more of the excess. But the other thing that happens is we learn drooling and letting our nose run, unchecked down our face is not socially acceptable. So we hold back and the excess is backed up in our sinuses and down the back of our throat instead of down our face. This excess is what causes the sinus pain. Next time you need a good cry take a few minutes to really blow your nose well, this will cut down on the pressure that causes the pain.
