Not in a human shower, no. Use a plant mister and fire it over their head.
Alternatively, with smaller birds such as cockatiels and budgies, fill a big bowl half full of water or fill the sink half full of water and let them play in it for about 10 minutes. With bigger birds such as anything from a conure and up, use a gentle shower mode, not big shots of water. Do this for 10-20 minutes with the bigger birds.

* If you are not invited to the shower then it is up to you whether you would like to give a gift or not, but you don't have to. If you were invited, but can't make the shower then yes, you should send the gift with someone else you know that is attending or stop by and give the gift AFTER the shower to the person the shower is for.

No, it is not in poor taste to give your daughter a baby shower. You could invite close relatives and a few of her friends to the baby shower.
Give them tiger blood.
You would either have to go where your son is to give the bridal shower or talk to your son and his fiancee and see if they can come to where you live for a visit so you can give the bridal shower.
You could give them a hook, or maybe a parrot!
