Bald Eagles usually eat fish, either they have caught or they have stolen from other Eagles. They will eat other things as well, but domesticated animals are not high on their list. The Bald Eagle has a lifting power of roughly four pounds. If fish is not available they will prey on ducks, or other water birds, sometimes even small mammals. They will eat carrion when they find it, and fight other eagles over it. The Bald Eagle will even chase other raptors, forcing them to drop their kill. They don't have to eat each day, but they can't go for prolong periods without eating. They have been seen hunting in pairs, and even going as far as attacking other raptors to steal prey or force them to drop their prey. But as for eating dogs and cats, they are raptors that normally prey on water species. Considering their lifting power of four pounds, a dog, or cat would need to be either already carrion, or very young. Anytime that domesticated tiny young animals are introduced into a wild environment, they should be closely supervised, if not harnessed. That rule should apply to pet birds as well. Raptors will hunt pet birds, when they are out enjoying the air. It's just not normal for Bald Eagles to do so, hawks are known more for that. For more details, please see the sites listed below.
