Kingfishers feeding varies, different species among global poulations having different diets. In many places marshes and the smaller types of fish are their food but in other areas species feed on frogs and crustaceans, as well as molluscs, annelid worms and in some cases other insects such as spiders and centipedes or reptiles including snakes. In some areas king fisher species have been observed to eat other birds or mammals and elsewhere individual species may specialise in a few items or take a wide variety of prey.
