I have 16 bird houses & 4 feeders lot,s of bird poop on my back step hand railings which are wood 2-4s I cut 3/4 by 3/4" wood drilled 3 1/8" holes or more if you want stainded the pices to mach the railing tacked one at each end ran fishing line back and forth than criss cross just like an X.
