If your chicken is a couple months old, the you need to look at their wing feathers. here are the steps:

  1. First you need to catch the chicken.
  2. Put your fingers, not your thumb, under the wing.
  3. Then gently press your thumb to the wing.
  4. Carefully pull the wing away from the body...CAREFULLY!! It may pull it's wing away, so you may have to calm it down. Use soothing words and whispers, then redo the steps.
  5. Now spread the wing out, and if the feathers are short near the body and long in the front...it is a rooster. But if it is all the same length...it's a hen!!!
