As a kid, I made a cheap and effective trap with a cardboard box, a piece of wood, a stick, 20 feet of string, and a small amount of grain.
Use a cardboard box that measures about 10" H x 12" W x 18" L. Cut a 6"x 6" access door in the box bottom. Fasten a weight at one end of the box. A piece of 2x3 or 2x4 works well. Tie the 20'-long string to a 10-12" stick, and use the stick to prop the weighted end of the inverted box.
For a couple of days, before putting the box in place, put some grain both outside and under the intended location of the box, where the pigeon can see it. Stay nearby so that the pigeon becomes accustomed to you while it's eating. After a few days, put the box and stick in place, and move 20 feet away
with the string in hand.
Wait for the bird to move to the grain under the box and pull the string, so that the box falls over the bird. Reach through the access door to retrieve it.

Clay pigeon shooting, or some call it trap shooting is the reason for clay targets being used. Many people use trap shooting or clay targets to better their hunting skills.
Male and female pigeons make very similar sounds, even during courtship. The only sex-specific sound is that of the male, a soft rolling hoo that is made while he circles the female to impress her.
