Quail are ground birds that are often hunted as "game" birds, or frequently raised for eggs and meat nowadays. They are related to pheasants. Quail build nests in the tall grasses of the plains and farmlands. With their camouflage coloration, they are more often heard than seen, and are one of the commonly heard singers around sunset in the Midwest US. The classification system lists the common quail in this order:

* Kingdom: Animalia * Phylum: Chordata * Class: Aves * Order: Galliformes * Family: Phasianidae * Species: Coturnix coturnix (Common Quail)
