• There are 17 species of penguin
• They all live in the Southern Hemisphere
• They have normal feathers just tightly compact
• When a Galapagos penguin goes on shore, it covers its feet with its flippers to stop it getting sunburned.
• Penguins are black and white for camouflage- when a predator looks below them, they see the black back, which resembles the bottom of the sea, and when they look above they see white which is the colour of the sky or ice from down below.
• Penguins have tails for balance and a gland near the tail produces an oily substance which penguins then spread around their body in a process called 'preening'.
• Penguins have webbed feet which help them propel themselves through the water as well as flippers doing that.
• When penguins feed their chicks, they eat their food and regurgitate it for their chick so it is easier for them to eat.
