Chirping or chirruping is a phonetic (sounding like) word which is used as a blanket term to describe the sounds many birds make. There are no officially recognised English words which accurately describe the calls of birds.

However, a common bird which makes a sound closely resembling the word 'chirp' or 'chirrup' is the sparrow.
