The Hawaiian Goose or Nene.
It is a brilliant bird. The only flightless goose, it is not at all shy and this led to its problems. When Polynesians first arrived, the geese were easy meat but real problems arrived with westerners ships, which carried rats (which steal the nene eggs) and cats (which predated the geese).
Fortunately, there has been a worldwide breeding programme to save the Nene and they are being reintroduced into the wild in secure locations.
If yu ever get chance to visit a wildfowl and wetland trust reserve, the nenes are delightful and feed from your hand if you are patient and calm.
