Hi There, You should throw out any wooden or food items, even if the wooden things are varnished. Bacteria could still have infected it- plus the bleach solution could remain.
Disassemble the bird cage and bring them to your cleaning area.
I used our bathtub. You will need to soak all plastic/metal items in a solution that is 10:1 of bleach. That is, 10 parts water to 1 part bleach. Do not use soap, it can leave a residue.
Fill your cleaning tub with hot water, measured. add 1 part bleach.
If you use 10 cups water, use 1 cup bleach. 10 quarts water, 1 quart bleach 10 gallon water, 1 gallon bleach depending on the size of your cage. The solution must cover all pieces completely.
But all plastic toys and All parts of cage that the bird touched, in the solution for 10 minutes. Let soak.
Drain Bleach water solution. Refill tub with water as hot as you can get. Soak each item for 10 minutes.
Run water again, rinsing each item thoroughly in the running water 1 minute.
Dry each item with a clean dry , soft cloth.
Re assemble.
