The last credible sighting of a Dodo (Raphuscucullatus) bird was in 1662. Only paintings and written accounts from the 17th century describe it. Sketches were drawn from live specimens, but since all of these bear considerable variation, the bird's appearance remains enigmatic. While some have depicted this bird as having white feathers on the body with yellow feathers on the wings, others depict the bird as having brown or gray feathers on the body with charcoal-gray head and neck feathers (multi-colored).
