They feed on whatever they can catch by diving into the water; mainly small fish.
Officially, a mallard is a dabbling duck, which is a duck that feeds or "dabbles" at the surface of the water, not diving. A simpler answer would be to call it a swimming bird.

Possibly as the tri-wetsuit might not be designed to swim in salt water though I'd be surprised if salt water was harder on the suit than chlorinated water
