Why do eagles have claws?

Claws, as we all know, are sharp. Any sharp object can be used as a weapon, and because they are attached to the eagle, that bird has a permanent weapon. Any weapon can be used to fight off enemies, as no one wants to get hurt (which is what a sharp object, i.e. claws, will do).
