Why does your parakeet look depressed?

A pigeon can die of depression and I have actually seen it happen. I was sitting in my car at red light on Columbus Blvd. in Philadelphia when a bunch of pigeons few onto the road. Well, there was this giant 4X4 next to me and I doubt he saw any of them - but when the light turned green - zoom! - off he went. Unfortunately, right at that moment a pigeon had been walking right in front of his front right wheel - so right then and there I saw a pigeon die of depression. And boy, let me tell you - it was really, really depressed. And so was I after I saw it - but there was nothing anyone could do - it was completely smushed!!!

Birds are very good at hiding their illnesses. This is a survival instinct: if a predator saw that the bird was ill, it would chase that bird because it's more likely to catch it.

So, if your bird is so ill that it cannot hide it any longer, if its feathers are scruffy and unpreened, it means it is really ill, and you need to get it to the vet immediately.

The pigeons look depressed for several reasons :

1. Exhaustion from flying or rearing youngsters.
2. The presence of a disease.
3. Inadequate or improper feeding .
