Female ducks make a more distinct quack, whereas males will all make more of a raspy quack. This holds true for most all breeds of ducks.
The UK and Ireland quack dont ducks "quack"
male ducks dont quack. they make a noise kind of similar to quacking though
penguins dont quack cause theyre not ducks :(
The easiest way to determine the gender of a duck is by the feathers, if you are dealing with a breed that displays sex-distinguishing colors. If there is no obvious difference in the feather colors, look at the tail feathers. In some breeds, the males' feathers curl up a bit at the base of the tails.
A duck's quack does not produce an echo, which is unique compared to other bird sounds. This phenomenon has to do with the fact that a duck's quack has a low-frequency and the sound waves can be absorbed by nearby surfaces before bouncing back to the listener.
Some domesticated ducks can get a condition called Angel Wing where the wing (or wings) do not grow properly during adolescence. Angel Wing can be caused by a nutrient deficiency during the bird's growth1. Feeding bread to Mallard ducks in the park (USA) is a major contributor to their susceptibility to Angel Wing; these ducks need to forage for themselves or eat a specially balanced pellet blend feed for ducks.
