No... the old 6V- and 8V- series were two cycle motors. The 60 Series, which has been in production since 1986, is a four cycle motor, as it the 6.2 litre V8 which went into production in 1983 or 1984.
8V71TI - 8 cylinders, 71 cu. in. per cylinder, T=turbo, I = intercooled. 8V71N - N = normally aspirated, no turbo, but all Detroit Diesels are/were supercharged 2-cycle diesels until the Series 60 models. The turbo models had turbos which blew thru the mechanical blowers, as an 8-71 supercharger. The intercoolers are between the turbos and the supercharger.
If it was a 4 stroke OHV diesel it was similar to gas OHV engines. They made 2 stroke diesels as well (Detroit Diesel's V series i.e. 6v-92) which still used a camshaft. SOHC and DOHC orientations were not prevalent on old diesels. 2 valves per cylinder was most common but not the only style.
No, that was 2007 when a 5.9 and a 6.7 where offered

Marine diesels for pleasure boats range from 2ltr. 4cylinder diesels like from Yanmar rated at 150hp, to the MTU M94 rated at 2600hp, 35.8ltrs V16 powering the 92ft Viking Yatch. The largest is the Korean Wartsila-Sulzer 2 cycle diesel used in cargo ships, 25,480ltr. 14cyl 114,800hp/ 5.6 Million lb-ft of torque.
Same as it is with all inline six diesels (and most inline six engines, at that) - 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4. Cat, Cummins, Detroit, Scania, Iveco, etc... all use the same firing order.
