They pass Port To Port side
Pass the buoy so that it is to your right (red right returning).
Pass to your port side headed to sea, starboard returning (red-right-returning).
You should keep the buoy on your starboard side. The channel should be marked with green to port and red to starboard as you enter.

Keeping it on your port, passing it to starboard, will prevent your running aground.
Port and starboard are nautical words used to indicate the left and right side of a boat. Port = left Starboard = right
Starboard on any boat or ship is the righthand side, port is the lefthand side. Port use to be called larboard.
Always remember, "Red to the right, returning," which means you should always keep the red buoy on your right hand side. Sail into harbor keeping the red buoy on the right (starboard) side of your boat. This applies in Region B, the opposite is true in Region A
If it's "red right returning", it's green left returning and green right (starboard) going. That is to say, you pass it to the left (port) as you return to port.
