A typical Galilee fishing boat was recently found near the shoreline, apparently abandoned in the first century after many decades of use. It was 8.27 metres (27 feet) long by 2.3 metres (7.5 feet) and accommodated a crew of 5 plus up to 15 passengers. It was a substantial boat of clearly robust design, with a keel and not "flat-bottomed".

There would only have been one, or perhaps two, boat builders operating around Galilee at any one time, building to a proven design. So this boat was probably very similar to that used by Peter.
