A blimp is a non-rigid airship, significantly bigger than a hot air balloon.

It is lifted by a sealed helium-filled balloon, and it moves by an engine-driven propeller mounted on the 'cockpit' which is called the gondola, attached to the bottom of the balloon.

The gondola also carries the operating personnel/engineers and passengers.

They are considered relatively easy to build, but like anything, it is easy when you know how!

Blimps are very big. Those operated by Goodyear are 192 feet (58 meters) long, 59.5 feet (18 meters) tall, and 50 feet (15 meters) wide.

But the largest blimps ever built were 804 feet (245 meters) long and 135 feet (41 meters) in diameter.

So you would need a lot of space, a lot of materials, and a lot of knowledge and practical skills to build one, not to mention the need to obtain the necessary flight permissions and directives from the aviation authority.

The main problem with blimps is lift. A small blimp can hardly lift anything, so you'll have to go for 'massive' if you want to lift and transport, say, a person!

If you will be content with lifting something much lighter, see Related Links below this box for more information. There is also a link to the WikiPedia site on 'blimps'.

What is the motion of a blimp propeller?

A blimp propeller spins in a circular motion, creating thrust that helps propel the blimp forward. The propeller is typically mounted at the front or rear of the blimp and its rotation can be controlled to change the direction of the blimp's movement.

What is the force of atmospheric of a blimp?

The force of buoyancy acting on a blimp is equal to the weight of the air displaced by the blimp. This force allows the blimp to float in the air. The blimp is designed to have a volume that displaces enough air to generate sufficient buoyancy to counteract the force of gravity acting on the blimp.
