Start by positioning the engine with the leg hanging straight down. Place a suitable drain pan underneath and remove the bottom drain plug from the gearcase. Note color and flow rate of oil. Should the lube have a white, milky appearance, or pure water flow out, this indicates seal damage. Remove the top vent screw, ( small slotted screw at top of gearcase ), allow to drain. Refill from the bottom drain hole until the lube flows out the top vent hole. While keeping oil from flowing out of bottom hole, install the top vent screw. Remove filler nozzel from bottom drain hole and quickly replace drain plug. Double check that both plugs are tightened.
