How do you disconnect shift shaft on mercury 18xd?

The shiftshaft disconnect on the Mercury XD model is located on the port side of the powerhead, just under the carburetor. Just flip the keeper up and pull it straight out. This will disengage the shaft from the shift linkage cross rod.
