You need a boat license if your boat is fitted with an auxiliary motor or an inboard motor. If you are in a canoe, kayak, or rowboat, you do not need a license. Check the website via Google for more information.
Inboard motors are usually heavier than outboard motors and can not be lifted up and haled away every time the boat docks. They do not need to be. They require maintenance but no where near as much.
