It depends a lot on the size of the boat. If it say, a 12 foot boat, probably about 7 or 8 knots (about 10 mph). On a bigger boat slower. As was said these small engines are used mainly for dinghies and for fishing.
Answer: I have a 8 foot fiberglass dinghy with a 4 Hp outboard. My GPS says 11km/h under full throttle on a calm lake.
The answer is relative. I have a 4 1/2 HP motor on my 12 foot aluminum boat. It gets me where I need to go.
A 4 hp Mercury outboard, produces a true 4 hp, rated at the prop.
Depends on how it is geared.
I have a 1980,115 Johnson Outboard on a Very Heavy 16ft Crestliner Fiberglass boat,I can get it up to 62kms per hour with 4 people in it .(I used a GPS to test this )
For a 10-foot fishing boat, you generally don’t need a very large motor. A 2 to 5 horsepower equivalent electric outboard is usually ideal. Smaller motors in this range provide enough thrust to move the boat smoothly, especially if you’re fishing on calm lakes, rivers, or bays. If you plan on carrying extra gear or passengers, leaning toward the higher end (around 5hp) ensures better performance without straining the motor. At EMO Electric You’ll find options like compact used electric outboard motors as well as newer models from trusted brands such as ePropulsion and Torqeedo, perfectly suited for small fishing boats.
I have a 16 ft rebel lund fishing alone the top speed has been thirty mph
